Advocating for Renewal of USMCA

The United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) needs to be renewed by July 1 2026, so USApple has made its renewal a key advocacy priority this year. Failure to renew the agreement for 16 years starts a 10-year clock for expiration in 2036. As the #1 and #2 export markets for U.S. apples, this agreement is essential to the economics of the apple industry.

In 2025 alone, the U.S. shipped 16 million bushels to Mexico and nearly 8 million to Canada, with a combined export value of $550 million. Preserving tariff-free access and the market certainty provided by USMCA is critical not only for exporters, but for growers across the country. When export markets tighten, more fruit stays in the domestic market, and that extra volume puts downward pressure on prices nationwide, and grower returns suffer.

To support this effort, USApple has been actively engaged in coalition work urging for renewal of the agreement. We have joined the National Foreign Trade Council in outreach to the Administration and have joined, as a founding member, the Agricultural Coalition for USMCA campaign.
